Welcome to Year 5OL!

Our Topic this term is

‘Conflict, how can we learn lessons from the past?’

Year 5 have had a fantastic start this year working on their learning challenge, Conflicts; what can we learn from the past?  They have been historians and geographers this half term, looking at countries where wars have happened and locating these countries on the world map. We have also been examining primary and secondary sources to help us investigate what happened in World War 2.

In English, the children have been reading  the book Rose Blanche to inspire their writing. The class have written some excellent narrative poems, which we were able to record on a green screen.

During maths, Year 5 have been working on place value, addition, subtraction and statistics.  The children have worked very hard on interpreting data by reading and drawing their own line graphs and tables. They are confident with statistics, however more practice on place value is needed over the next few weeks.

In PHSE we have been focusing on friendship and what it means to be a good friend. The class used the poetry skills they had developed in English to create their own friendship poem which was read out in assembly.
