See if you can find the answers to the following questions:

  1. What is the life cycle of a Butterfly?
  2. What do Butterflies drink?
  3. How many wings does a butterfly have?
  4. Can butterflies fly straight away?

TUESDAY:

Symmetry making.

Today you are going to explore symmetry. Please look through and discuss the slides about what symmetry is. Now you are going to have a go. Please complete the steps in order and if your child can do it, move onto the next step.

Step 1: Exploring: Make a symmetry butterfly: could you fold a piece of paper in half and cut it into a butterfly shape, open it back up and encourage your child to paint on one side of the paper. Then help them to fold it in half, what do they notice? Please discuss how the paint is transferred onto the opposite side and it is in a mirror image.

Step 2: Matching: Grown ups, please could you draw these shapes and cut them in half and muddle them up for your child to match them together. You can do different coloured pens/pencils for each shape or you could use the same coloured pen/ pencil for all.

WEDNESDAY: Happy Wednesday!

Today we would like you to use the butterflies that you made yesterday and write descriptive sentences about them.

'My butterfly has two red spots.'

Remember:

  • Lie in lizard position when writing or sit at a table.
  • Tilt your page slightly.
  • Use your Kinetic Letter sound mat to help you form your letters correctly.
  • Sit your letters on the line, Braves letters go to the top branch and Skip's letters go to the bottom branch.
  • Remmeber to use a capital letter at the start of your sentence and a full stop at the end.
  • Say your sentence, clap your sentence, say the word, use your phonic fingers to sound out the word and then write it.

Grown-ups - see if your child can do this independently, writing the letters that they hear in each word (buttafligh)

THURSDAY:

On Tuesday you made you started to explore symmetry. Today you are going to make your own symmetrical patterns with objects: Please remind your children that the pictures should be mirror image, use a mirror to help explain/ explore this.

Children can make half of a picture using objects found at home and then copy it on the other side. For example; using lego or stickers. In my examples I have used felt shapes and plastic Easter eggs. Can you see that I made sure the pink spots were in the same place on each wing and the yellow spots were in the same spot as well?
