Reading
Reading is an essential skill for learning and for life.
At Birchen Coppice Primary Academy, we believe that every child has the right to learn to read and become a fluent, confident and competent reader. Reading books develops a child’s imagination; providing a doorway to amazing worlds. Success in reading deepens a child’s range of language and we recognise that this is vital for learning across the curriculum and the wider world. It is therefore essential that we not only teach children the skills of reading, but also ensure that we develop a love of reading. At Birchen Coppice Academy, we strive to achieve this through:
- Developing early reading skills through Read Write Inc. Phonics programme
- Immersing EYFS pupils in an exciting literature based curriculum.
- Teach regular fluency and comprehension lessons.
- Provide all pupils with a progressive text rich English curriculum.
- Read widely across all areas of the curriculum.
- Give time for children to Read for Pleasure.
- Promote books and authors and read aloud to children every day.
- Read at Home
- Enjoy whole school and national reading days.
