Phonics

Phonics is incredibly important for your children to keep doing during lockdown. We will be uploading one Phase 2 and one Phase 3 activity per day, please see the phonics tab to see these. You will have been notified if your child is Phase 3. If you have not had a message from Miss Tunley, please carry out the Phase 2 work.

Use this time to explore the sounds in your pack, see if your child can identify the sounds, build words, blend the sounds. There are many videos which identify the sounds so you can see how they are pronounced. Alphablocks is a good starting point for identifying and blending sounds at home.

The order that we learn sounds are:

Set 1: s, a, t, p
Set 2: i, n, m, d

Set 3: g, o, c, k
Set 4: ck, e, u, r
Set 5: h, b, f, ff, l, ll, ss

Start with the sounds s, a, t, p. After your child can identify these sounds they can build words with the letters and then practise writing the words e.g. pat, sat, tap.

As your child's sound knowledge develops you can get them to put these words into a sentence and practise writing the sentence. Keep the sentences short to start with and include one of the tricky words: I, to, no, go, the, into. E.g. The cat sat. The cat sat on the mat.

In school we follow 'Letters and Sounds'

This website has lots of information about phonics and it has words and sentences you can use to help you to think of words to build: Letters and sounds
