Good Morning,
We are moving onto learning about Spiders this week and reading the book Aaaarrgghh Spider! I shall read it today so you can show it to your child lots and lots.

MONDAY:
Boys and Girls, can you and your grown-up look through these fact sheets and pick up some key information that stands out to you, then together, both you and your grown-up can make your own Spider Diagram. After you have sent your work back to Miss Tunley and I, we will make a big class 'Spider Diagram' and send it back to you to use later in the week and to know lots about spiders.
If you find any other child friendly places to find out some information about Spiders, send it to us and we can add it on for other children to use.
Also, see if you can see any spiders in your house or in your garden.
• Did you find any?
• Where did you find them?

TUESDAY:

Good morning! It's raining by me today, which is a good reason to sing "Incy Wincy Spider" hopefully the sun may come out!

Today we would like you to get crafting! You are going to make your own pet spider, just like our story!
Parents/ Carers, once you and your child have decided which way they are going to make their pet spider (playdough, paint, paper, etc.), try to encourage them to be as independent as possible to design and make their spider. Please give them a picture or range of pictures to look at while they are making their spider. We would like each spider to look different and unique to the child.

Then have a discussion with them about it, here are some questions you might ask:
- How many legs does a spider have? How many legs does your spider have?
-What is your pet spider's name?
- Why have you chosen that shape for the body?

I have attached some ways in which you can make a spider. You do not have to use these examples.
Miss Tunley and I will send over our pictures of our pet spider's too!

I must add as well. Please use what you have in your house, you do not need to go out and buy more resources for today's activities. Use shoe and clothes and take a picture if you would like. Please do not buy anything extra.

WEDNESDAY:

Now that you have learned about Spiders and made your own pet spider, we would like to know…

Would you like a Spider as a pet? Let us know! We would like to make a graph showing who would like a spider as a pet and who would not.

Today’s task is to write facts about your pet spider. Please remember to encourage your child to be as independent as possible. We would love to see their sound knowledge in their writing.

Here are some examples of what they might write about their pet:
“My pet spider is big and black”
“He has big long black legs”
“He is hairy”
“He can make a web”
“He likes to catch flies and eat them”
“He likes to dance and sing.”

Here are the different stages of writing to remind you:
Level 1: Making marks, this is where your child will do lines and circles to describe what they have drawn and will tell you what they have written. Please write what they have said "That says I want to ride my bike."
Level 2: Identifying the initial sound in the words, this is where your child will hear a "b" in bike and write that sound.
Level 3: Identifying more sounds in words e.g. "b-i-k" in bike and writing these sounds.
Level 4: beginning to write sentences using the sounds they hear in words. E.g. "I wont to rid my bik." This sentence is written as if a child has heard and identified the dominant sounds.
Each of these stages is important and a brilliant achievement for your children. If you would like more information about this, please message me.
Today you are going to practise adding and counting on. Here are some spiders for you to add.
• How many legs does each spider have?
• Can you find the numeral to match that?
• Can you add two spiders together?
Don't forget, see if you can say the number sentence:
"2 +3 = 5"
Can you write it? Remember you can write it with dots to represent each number or you can write the numerals.
Now you have added two groups, can you count on? Counting on is when you have a number in your head and you say the next numbers whilst touching and adding another amount.
• For example: 2 legs and then while touching the next set of legs I would say: 3, 4, 5. It is important that you do not say the first number when counting on e.g. 2 in your head, 2, 3, 4. This would make the total amount incorrect.
We have done some of this in our classroom, but this is very tricky to learn, so have a go and keep going throughout the weekend using objects from around the house.
Have a go, we will be proud of you for trying and for being persistent in your learning!

Good morning Lovelies,

Now you know all about Spiders, you are going to compare the similarities (things which are the same) and the differences (things which are different) to you as a human. So our questions are: How are spiders similar to us humans? How are spiders different to us humans?

Parents/ Carers here are some questions that may help prompt your children's answers.
• What do they eat? What do you eat?
• Do you eat the same/ different things?
• Where do Spiders live? Where do you live?
• What is the same/different about our homes (special word: habitats)

Parents/ carers, you can write what your child says for this and send it to us, so it could be just typed onto a message or it can be written in their books and pictures taken of it. We do this so that children can focus on their thinking and ideas, not the writing of it. If they want to write it that's great, but we don't need them to.

I can't wait to see your wonderful comparisons!
