Week 4 - Week Beginning Monday 11th May

This week we are carrying on with our story 'What the Ladybird Heard' by Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks.

Book(1)

MONDAY:

Good morning boys and girls! I hope you have a had a wonderful weekend!

This week we are carrying on with the story ‘What the Ladybird Heard’ by Julia Donaldson, hopefully you have listened to it lots and lots! Today you and your grown-ups or older siblings are going to draw a map of the story. Drawing pictures of the events and putting them in order. Here is my example for you.

Why don’t you start off by listening to the story again to refresh your memory? Then have a go at drawing and talking about the events in the story.

Let me know if you need any help, and don’t forget to keep in contact with us, and keep sending us pictures of your wonderful work or activities!

TUESDAY:
Today you are going to label the animals from the story including a word to describe them.
For example; red ladybird, grey duck, stripy cat.
Remember to be independent in your thinking and use your phonic knowledge to write the words. We will be super happy if you write the word ladybird: "Laideebird", as this is phonetically decodable.
Remember to use your sound mat to help you to form the letters correctly.
We can’t wait to see your writing!
Today you are going to create a WANTED poster for Lanky Len and Hefty Hugh. Here is a picture of a wanted poster: You will have to draw a picture of Lanky Len and Hefty Hugh and then write about what they look like.
Think about how you will describe them:
- What are they wearing? E.g. "Hugh has a stripy top and Len has a blue top on." With your child's phonics knowledge this may look like this, "Hugh has a stripe top and Len has a bloo top on." This is wonderful!
- What colour hair and eyes do they have?
- How tall are they? How short are they?
- What have they done wrong? Why do you want them caught?
Use your sound knowledge to help you write the words/ sentences. Remember to use your sound mat to write your letters correctly.
Can't wait to see your wonderful work!

THURSDAY:
Today, you are going to practise your doubling skills, but this time you are going to double with pictures. (Parents/ Carers, please carry on doubling with objects if your child hasn’t grasped doubling yet).
You are going to count the amount of spots on one side and then double it! That means draw the same amount of spots on the other side. You can then identify the total and say the number sentence. You can even try writing the number sentence!
Enjoy!
Make sure to keep going with identifying numbers all the way up to 20! Keep this going by playing different number games e.g. Number hunts, snap and match the numbers with amounts of objects around the house.

FRIDAYHi everyone, hope you have had a wonderful day! I’m in school again tomorrow, so here is tomorrow’s work.

Today you are going to make your own ladybirds, you can make your ladybird out of any materials you have at home e.g. clothes, paper, card, recycling. You are then going to describe your ladybird and write words or a sentence about it.

Here is mine: My ladybird is called Lily. She is red and has got 4 black spots. She eats aphids.

Here she is! Enjoy!
